What is the difference between a master and a Slave Inverter?

One of the inverters is defective in an LCD TV we are repairing at my work. We’re not sure which one it is. What would be a way to tell which one needs replacing, beyond any physical signs of it being broken?

The master inverter generates the timing signals to work and run its bulb. The slave inverter uses the timing signal the main inverter generates, to light its bulb.

In theory, if just the slave inverter has failed, then the master should work.

To tell what is bad, you will need electronic test equipment to see if the correct voltages and signals are being made.
