Why is a 1400 dollar tv not as reliable as my 300 dollar tv I bought 17 years ago?
I have a 40 ince lcd Samsung tv i bought a couple years ago, it just recently stopped working, so a brought out my 19 inch tube tv from the spare bedroom i bought 17 years ago and it still works like bran new.

Because 17 years ago $300 was worth far more than $1400 now.
Things, even the best, may break much earlier than expected. It is the law of probabilities, the more components you have the more likely something with fail.
Things used to be made to last. People bought things, and planned to keep them for years and years.
Now more things are seen as disposable. For one, people want more for less money, so the companies cut corners and use cheaper parts to bring the cost down. Also, people think they need to upgrade every year or two, so they don’t care as much about things lasting.
