With flat screen display units is a screen saver still required?

I know they were with cathode ray tubes to prevent ghosting after a time, but do these newer flat screen jobs(Hanns.G in my case) suffer from the same problems or can they be left on all the time without damage resulting?

Screen burn can still happen with an LCD, there’s a warning about in almost every LCD manual many saying it’s excluded from the warrenty.

It seems to happen on LCD’s that are around 2 years old and well used. It’s not permanant, it fades when it switched off. But when it starts to happen, it will drive you up the wall. I had a Dell W2600, If there were any bright contrasting areas they would burn into the screen, things like the emule blue progess bars killed it.
